Our History

Thompson Electric has a rich history in the Kingston-Gananoque area.


1945 – Russell established Thompson Electric from his Burnt Hills home, focusing on the seasonal community and the areas large farming community.


1962 – Ernie Eaton began his apprenticeship at Thompson Electric and is currently a Project Manager.


1971 – Earle Thompson took over operations of Thompson Electric from Russell and brought the company into its second generation of Thompson Family ownership.


1972 – Peter Roantree began his apprenticeship at Thompson Electric and is currently a Project Manager.


1975 – Thompson Electric incorporated to Thompson Electric (Seeley’s Bay) Ltd.


1988 – Scott Kelly began his apprenticeship at Thompson Electric and is currently the General Manager.


1991 – Began a 10 year partnership with Goodyear Napanee.


1996 – Jason Thompson began his apprenticeship at Thompson Electric.


2000 – Michelle Thompson joined the company as Secretary Treasurer.


2005 – Thompson Electric was recognized as one of the top trainers in Ontario with the Minister’s award for excellence.


2006 – Began a 5 year project at the Block ‘D’ development in Kingston.


2009 – Jason Thompson took over operations of Thompson Electric from Earle as the company moved into its third generation of Thompson Family ownership.


2009 – Cathy Kelly is hired as the Office Manager, taking over for Linda Stanford who retired after her 25 years of loyal and dedicated service with the company.


2010 – Thompson Electric began operations in the renewable energy industry on the Wolfe Island Wind Project, the First Light Solar Farm and Ledge Croft Bio Digester.

1960′s

The 1960’s saw Thompson Electric form a working partnership with Rothwell/Perrin, a modular home manufacturer located in Portland Ontario.


1970′s

In the mid 1970’s, Thompson Electric began developing relationships with local property developers and builders such as Dacon Construction, Homestead Landholdings and Blommstyn Construction.


1980′s

The 1980’s saw Thompson Electric step into the commercial high-rise and apartment building market in Kingston.


1990′s

The 1990’s gave Thompson Electric the opportunity to build upon the relationships that came from the commercial and high-rise developments and seek out new partnerships in the manufacturing industry in Eastern Ontario. Contracts with Alcan Chemicals, Goodyear Tire Manufacturers, Bombardier Transportation and Proctor & Gamble Canada have led Thompson Electric to becoming a competitive contender in today’s market place.


2000′s

2000’s Have seen Thompson Electric maintain on going working relationships with developers and manufacturers in Eastern Ontario. Our experience and dedication to our customers and clients has allowed us to continue to serve our industry partners, and at the same time to seek out new partnerships and opportunities.
