Thompson Electric is proud of the projects that we have had a part in completing. Here is a brief overview of some of our accomplishments.
Wolfe Island Wind Project -Wolfe Island, Ontario
Completed in 2009, Thompson Electric had the pleasure of being a part of the construction of Canada’s second largest wind farm at that time; The Wolfe Island Wind Project. It is unique to North America in that it transmits power from the island, where the wind turbines are located, to the mainland through a 7.8 KM long submarine cable. Developed by the Canadian Renewable Energy Corporation, the Wolf Island Wind Project is a 197.8 MW wind plant with 86 wind turbines with rated capacities of 2300 kilowatts each.
Thompson Electric worked alongside industry partners Tiltran Services, to assist in the splicing and termination of high voltage conductors connecting the turbines to the substation.
Block ‘D’ -Kingston, Ontario
Thompson Electric carried out the complete installation of the electrical systems, including the transformer and sub-stations in the four high rise buildings located in the former Block ‘D’ of Kingston, Ontario. Beginning construction in 2003, this project was developed by Homestead Landholdings and Gillin Engineering. It consists of: the Royal George building, which is a 95 unit condominium; the Locomotive Works building, a 142 unit apartment building; Caruthers Wharf building another 142 unit apartment building; and, an 11 story Marriott Hotel, Residence Inn.
New Light Solar Farm -Napanee, Ontario
Thompson Electric worked alongside industry partners Tiltran Services, to assist in the splicing and termination of high voltage conductors connecting the turbines to the substation.
Thompson Electric had the opportunity to work with other industry partners in the creation of the largest scale solar farm operation in Canada at that time. Their work included the interconnection of the solar panels to the inverter station and the termination of the transformers on the 10MW solar farm just North of Napanee, which powers 1,000 homes in the township of Stone Mills, Ontario.
Alcan Canada -Brockville, Ontario
Thompson Electric was the electrical contractor for all three phases of major plant extensions at the Axens (formerly known as Alcan) Chemicals Facility in Brockville. Since the completion of the extensions, Thompson Electric has been Axens’s maintenance contractor of choice.
