About Us
Helping our customers Since 1945
Thompson Electric is a 3rd generation family owned business that has served the Belleville to Cornwall corridor of Eastern Ontario for over 70 years.
When Russell Thompson returned from serving over seas in WWII, he settled in the Seeley’s Bay area and soon established Thompson Electric as a one man electrical repair service.
Since then, we have grown through three generations of family ownership to become an established and recognized electrical contractor in the Kingston & 1000 Islands region.
Media About Us
Thompson Electric is a licensed electrical contractor with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). The ESA is responsible for regulating the safe use of electricity and equipment in Ontario, enforcing the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and appointing inspectors. As a licensed electrical contractor, our work is backed with an Electrical Inspection Certificate from the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority.
In 2014 Thompson Electric was an Associate Level donor for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) project at Kingston General Hospital.

Renewable Energy Experience (past 15 years)
Over the past 15 years Thompson Electric has been an active partner in Eastern Ontario’s shift toward cleaner energy. We’ve worked on large-scale projects tied to the Wolfe Island wind farm and delivered numerous micro-FIT ground-mount solar installations for commercial and municipal clients across the region.
Our renewable work spans installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance — everything from balance-of-plant wiring, inverter and combiner installation, array and site power distribution, to grid interconnect work and preventative maintenance programs. We’ve supported seasonal service plans and rapid response maintenance for solar arrays, keeping systems performing reliably year-round.
These projects have given our team hands-on experience with both utility-scale and distributed generation systems, rugged rural site logistics, safety-critical procedures, and coordination with utilities and developers. That background means Thompson Electric can confidently support future renewable and hybrid projects across the St. Lawrence corridor — including solar, wind support infrastructure, and battery-ready electrical systems — helping deliver dependable, sustainable power for our communities.
Our Partnership Approach
At Thompson Electric, we believe the strongest projects are built on strong relationships. For over three generations, our commitment to a partnership-focused approach has helped us earn the trust of leading developers across Kingston and Eastern Ontario.
Specializing in high-rise apartment and condominium construction, we work closely with our clients from early planning through project completion to ensure seamless coordination, reliable manpower, and exceptional electrical workmanship.
Our goal is simple: create long-term partnerships that add value, reduce risk, and support the growth of our clients’ developments. By aligning our processes, communication, and expertise with your project needs, Thompson Electric becomes more than a contractor—we become a trusted partner in your success.
What Does the Future Hold?
The future is bright for Thompson Electric. With a strong lineup of projects already underway and a steady workload scheduled well into the coming years, we’re positioned for continued, sustainable growth. Our team is expanding, our capabilities are broader than ever, and our partnerships with leading developers across Eastern Ontario continue to deepen.
From Kingston through the St. Lawrence corridor, Thompson Electric is ready to take on new challenges and add more milestone projects to our portfolio. Whether it’s high-rise residential, commercial spaces, major infrastructure, or specialized electrical systems, we have the experience, workforce, and capacity to deliver.
